Doel-fin question

Doel-fin question

Post by Ivan You » Tue, 19 Aug 1997 04:00:00

I just bought a 28 foot Wellcraft Prima with a 7.4L Mercrusier and
Bravo 2 leg.  It seems to take forever to get up on plane and i'm
wondering if a doel-fin or some thing similar will make any
improvement.  Any one try one on a similar sized boat?  Thanks in
advance for any responses.

Doel-fin question

Hi
I have had two boats almost as big with the same problem. My 1982 Searay
27'/350 merc had a "Stingray" fin. It helped a bit but mostly the boat
was more stable on plane.
I think trim tabs are much more effective. As well have you got as much
weight forward as possible.
Good luck

I believe you should be in the market for some trim tabs........Leno

We used to run a 268 SeaRay.  We did install a Doel-Fin and It did make a
difference.  The boat also had Trim Tabs, which I think are also very
important on a boat of this size.  The biggest thing to check is how your
boat is propped.  Are you at the upper or lower limits of your RPM range.
If you are at the lower limits, try going down a couple of pitches.  This
will help you plan faster.  ( I think we were running a 12 Pitch, when we
were loaded for a trip) with a 260 Merc. I/O)

Hope this helps
