How come Da Bomb didn't qualify for ASA Gold Nationals?

Not sure why this ego-filled team tried to qualify for ASA Gold. I guess a
35-2-3 record isn't good enough.

Thanks to www.eastcountysports.com for this fodder.

Da Bomb repeats as Cal State Games winner

Speial to ECS.com

For the second year in a row, El Cajon-based Da Bomb won the gold medal
for the 18-Under Softball Competition at the California State Games
last weekend. This year, the softball competition was held at Robb Field in
Ocean Beach. As the defending champion, Da Bomb battled teams from all over
California. Da Bomb averaged eight runs and almost 10
hits per game, while going undefeated in the tournament.

Jennifer Young (Granite Hills) and Diana Ramos (El Capitan) led the
local girls in hitting, with Young getting nine hits in 19 at bats, and
Ramos
collecting seven safeties in 11 official trips to the plate. Ramos also got
the
game-winning rbi in the championship game, scoring Stephanie Calhoun (Mount
Miguel), who had doubled in the 7th inning and advanced to third on a
single
by Suzanne Yale (Valhalla). Stephanie Strangman (Valhalla) continued to hit
well, with six hits in 12 tries, including back-to-back doubles in one
game.

Amanda Michael (Helix) led the pitching department this weekend. She
started three games, did not allow a run, and gave up only two hits in the
tournament.

Da Bomb has now won six out of seven tournaments entered this summer, with
one third-place finish. The east county team has a 35-2-3 record since
Memorial Day.

Sounds like a team that called themselves gold but never went to a Gold
Qualifier.  I've known teams that tell players/parents they are "gold", never
attend an ASA Qualifier and end up at AFA Nationals.  If you don't attend an
ASA Gold Qualifier, you're an 18U team, not a gold team.

Ez Tom, I've seen some "Gold teams" that would have a difficult time qualifying
at the 16U level.

In a cross post of sorts, Amie's 16&U Socal Rebels beat Da Bomb in the Artesia
Tournament 8-0.
