Tryouts: New San Diego 18-Gold team, "Firestarters"

Tryouts for a new San Diego-based 18-Gold team, "Firestarters," will be
held at Hourglass Park in Mira Mesa on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. For
further information please contact Herb Schildt at

I'm a bit sick of watching bad teams give bad advice to these kids
(Breakers, Lightning, etc.). San Diego travel ball stinks, I'm going to
change it.

Thanks,
Herb

Welcome herb,

The Renegades do not have a Gold program and I have had numerous people call
me or e-mail me asking who you are and what experiances you have at the Gold
level.  I refrred them to your e-mail address. Good luck with try outs, with
the 16s and 18s still being at Nationals this week.

By the way Lightning has placed in the top ten every year at Gold nationals,
finished 5th this year and 2nd about 4 years ago. Not to bad of a record.

Herb - Did you watch the SD Lightning Gold at Nationals?  I was
impressed.  I believe they finished in fifth place...a very good showing
if you ask me.  Just a point of view...don't start slamming teams until
you've walked in their cleats!  Good luck.  Elsie Aguirre-Simpson

I agree and I know Lightning has had many players receive financial aid the
past few years. As well as finished high at Nationals.

What San Diego doesn't need is another "Gold" team there is hardly enough
"Gold" level pitching as is.

Just A Thought - - -

Herb,
Before you begin taking apart other programs, perhaps you should
investigate what you are talking about. In the four years since the Gold
program started, Lightning has placed in the top 5 twice. In the last three
years they have sent 14 girls to such Div I schools as Univ of Ilinois -
Chicago, San Diego State, Tulsa University, UCLA, Notre Dame, UC Santa Barbara,
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Loyola-Marymount, Univ of San Diego -   (and it looks
like Stanford or Nebraska may be added to this list soon). Several have earned
all-league honors on their college teams, one has earned All-American honors
and another won the NCAA Women's College Series.
Lightning rebounded nicely this year, after a couple of disappointing
seasons and as everyone knows there is always room for improvement. But don't
knock the product unless you have personally sampled it. Once you have built a
winning program of your own, then you might be able to offer some criticism.
    'Til Then . . .

Who is this Herb guy anyway?  I don't believe I've ever heard the name before.
I don't think I've been out of touch that much.

Yes...we would also like to know who Herb is.  We've gotten a couple of
personal emails asking if we know who he is.  I think this is a fair
question.

Just thought I'd reply even though your tryouts are already over.  Have you
filled all positions?  My daughter is an outstanding all-around athlete.
Primary positions pitcher/shortstop.  Please respond if you still might be
looking for players such as my daughter.  I tried to e-mail you directly, but
it wouldn't go through.  Something wrong with your e-mail address?
