Coaching Clinics?

I am the coach of a 14 & under girls fastpitch travel team in the southern
california area. I am relatively new ( 2 years ) at coaching at this level
and would like to receive more ( and better ) training. I have been
looking around for coaches clinics in socal but can't seem to find any,
save one ASA clinic. Does anyone know of any clinics in Cal. I must be
looking in the wrong places. Please email me at:

ASA has a National Clinic Feb. 8-9 1997 in Los Angeles, CA.  Call or
write:
Bill Smith
4711 Tucana Street
Yorba Linda, CA  92686-3240
714-524-9878
This is a National Clinic, talk to him and he might turn you on to a State
clinic that might be closer. If I were you I'd get to the National.  I'm
from PA and I was impressed with the  National clinic 2 years ago.  (Of
course I was impressed with the State clinic also!)  The price is nominal,
the only variable is the cost of the site.  It was $40 in Pittsburgh.
This is a Level I clinic.
You should also try the ASA home page and find out about the VIP program.
You need some resourse material anyway it all there.  Maybe the league
could incure some of the cost of the ASA Videos for the VIP Program.
If you need help e-mail me but once you hook up with the ASA you shouldn't
need for information again

The ASA web site has been updated with a list of the 1997 National
Coaching Clinics, including contacts
(http://www.softball.org/jrolympics/97schls.html).  (Although I don't
see any in Florida, you can (a) come visit us in Atlanta or (b) contact
your local commissioner to see if he's got something local in the works.

Try your local collages with a fastpitch program. Most of the collages
are on the internet. And alot of them have there own homepage. Most of
them run players and coaches clinics in spring to help raise money for
there program. Usally there clinics are geared for beginner or
intermidiate levels. There are some really good coaches out there at the
collage level that are really helpful. I had a really good JC coach work
with our girls a couple years ago for nothing while we were preparing
for Nationals. It helps them promote there schools, also so the fees are
usually reasonable.

Cal St. Northridge is having one for coaches and another one for players.
One is this weekend and the other is the following weekend.  I believe
the coaches one is this week, but don't hold me to it.  Call the CSUN
athletic department and talk to Jan Sherman or one of her assistants.

If you have any players in this area, it is a really good clinic, with all
of the CSUN players helping, followed by one of the team's practices.

Cal State Northridge will be holding a coaches clinic this Sat. (1/11).
Call the coach, Jan Sherman at 818/885-3230 or the sports office at
818/885-3208. I don't have the brochure with me at the moment, but those
are the phone numbers from last year.

Also, Cal State Fullerton usually runs a clinic and I know that UCLA had a
coaches/players clinic last year.
