(FP)AAU jumps into Fastpitch

Dear fastpitch friends:

I'm reading posts but NO TIME to respond.  There is a movement in the MidWest toward
softball sponsored by the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union).  These people have the money and
resources that could make an interesting run toward NGB status.  Anyone out West caught
wind of this, why would the AAU take an interst in fastptich softball?

Tim,
No I haven't heard anything about it, though I'll see the SoCal ASA people
this weekend and I'll ask. As to why they would be interested, I think the
main reason would be the new Olympic status of women's FP. But, before you
think I'm being dismissive, let me say that I was a competitive water polo
player in my youth, and AAU was and I think, is the organizing body for youth
water polo, though I think swimming has gone it's own way. Anyway, the AAU
could (I empasize could) bring to women's and girls fastpitch softball a
different kind of umbrella group than ASA. In ASA, the only common point is
softball, and girls FP is a small part of an organization that has
recreational, competitive, and even semi-pro components. In AAU, the common
point would be the Olympics, and though the sports are different, the guiding
principles and athletes and their aspirations might actually be much more
similar and synergistic (sorry, a Shirley MacLaine there). I would like to
hear more about this if you hear any more.
Thanks-Bill Smith

Good for them. The ASA  people in Michigan have taken very few steps
that I would consider to have been made in the best interests of
Girls Fastpitch Softball.

Bill:
I have a very nicely printed brochure that talks about AAU Fastptich softball.  This
brochure is from Ohio.  I use to wrestle under the AAU before the USWF became the NGB.
The AAU's National Headquarters use to be here in Indianapolis but it is now in Orlando or
they are moving shortly.

What does it say the AAU people are up to? I've seen or heard of
nothing relative to the State of Michigan and Fastpitch run by AAU.
The ASA people here seem to have missed the boat on several key
issues. I would like to know more.
