Can someone please let us know how many points are needed to qualify for 18U
gold?  Have asked many people and all seem to have a different answer!  LOL

Thanks,
Denise

I'm not certain about this, but if ASA follows policy from former years
no set amount of points gets you in to the GOLD tournament. The field
is first filled from the automatic qualifiers from the previous year.
There
are seven of these. There are then two host teams. Then each of the 15
regions send two teams. We are now up to 39 teams. Then the 15 winners
from the national qualifyiing tournaments are in. We are now up to 54
teams. The field is then filled up to the designated number (last year
it was
64) with teams with the highest point totals. There is no way in advance

to know what the points needed is. The best way to follow the progress
of this through the season is at the California Breeze website:

According to the 2000 ASA Rulebook, they will take 7 teams from points
standings. They may take more if one of the 35 berths that are set aside
for regions, metros etc are not used.

Teams outside of the last two tournaments are also gaining points in
other points qualifiers.

Some teams with high number of points currently will possibly qualify by
winning a future qualifier.

All of this means no one can say at this point how many points is
enough.

Based on just the two recent qualifiers and considering that the rule
book only mandates 7 teams by points, one would think a much larger
number then last year will be needed. There are probably 20 teams
already with 40 plus points.

The California Breeze web site is posting that it might take
between 120-140 points this year, because of the large number of
teems in the tournaments!

You were ok up until this point. Only the top 7 teams get in on points. PERIOD.
All 64 berths are established and come from additional places like:

The top 3 teams from 18U last year.

The top 3 regions in 18Gold registrations each get one....and so on.

The only way that additional teams get into St. Louis is that if any ONE of the
qualified teams decide not to attend......then the fill in proceedure is to
take the next team in the points standings.

There is no finite number of points for gold. It's just the highest number of
points accumulated. There are a specific number of slots available to points.
