There was one previous perfect game in the Women's College World Series.  Back
in the dark ages, Debbie Doom and Tracy Compton of UCLA combined to throw a
perfect game.

There was also the perfect game pitched by Julie Bolduc for Adelphi University
against Utah State back in 1984.  So that makes three total then, with the
Blades' perfect game?  Are there any others that anyone knows of?

I don't believe that two pitchers can combine for an official No hitter or
perfect game.  Therefore, this would make the second.

I don't think that was in the college world series.  I believe it was in a
regional game.

Bolduc definately pitched the game in the World Series.  I was at the game in
Omaha.  The current  assistant coach of Hofstra University, Bella Totino, made
a diving catch in shallow right field for the last out of the game.  It was all
very exciting.  Definately NOT in a regional.

The following is a quote from the NCAA news release on Courtney Blades' perfect
game:

"Blades is the first pitcher in WCWS history to throw a seven-inning perfect
game. On May 29, 1982, Tracy Compton and Debbie Doon of UCLA combined to throw
a perfect game against Western Michigan, 1-0."

Yes, I read this on the Southern Miss web page.  I have contacted the
University Media Relations Department and asked  them to correct their mistake.
I am waiting for a reply.
The NCAA was also contacted but someone replied by e-mail and said  that
the NCAA does not keep track of perfect games because there have been so many.
I thought that sounded strange, but that's what the e-mailed reply said.
Let me assure you, beyond any doubt whatsoever, that freshman Julie Bolduc
pitched  the first perfect game (single pitcher) in NCAA history on May 25th,
1984 for Adelphi University against Utah State in Omaha, Nebraska at the 1984
Women's College World Series.

Was the Adelphi game a run rule?  If it only went 5 or 6 innings then everyone
is right.....Blades would have been the first 7 inning perfecto.

Well I guess this is as close to definitive as we have gotten regarding the
perfect game controversy....I finally found a list of NCAA no- hitters on the
Fresno State Softball webpage....it is in the archives '98 section....address
fresnostatesoftball.com/archives98/dogbytes....if you go to the bottom of the
page that I have copied here, you will see that the * indicates a perfect
game....so....you will see that the Doom/Compton combined perfect game was in
'82.....and that the 1st single pitcher perfect game was pitched in 1984 by
Julie Bolduc from Adelphi University....the next perfect game was pitched by
Shawn Andaya of Texas A&M in '87.....so that makes the Blades' perfect game the
3rd in history behind Bolduc and Andaya.

Cal State Fullerton (1) vs. Western Michigan (0), May 29, 1982).
