I read where the Pan Am Games are beginning in Argentina, but I
saw no mention of Fencing, nor have I heard mention of it at my
club. Is the sport included in the games? If so, is the US
participating? If so, whom are we sending?

TIA

Yes, fencing is included. I know this for a fact because my coach, Zoran Tulum, is currently in Argentina with Stanford Foilist Sean McClain and Nick Bravin. I don't know who else went, but I imagine it was the weapon coordinators and the top four athletes in each weapon.

Thanks, Sasha. Anyone else out there know more? TIA.

According to today's NY Times, Tamir Bloom (NYAC)  got the silver in men's
epee.  I believe Ann Marsh got the gold in women's foil, and Felicia
Zimmerman made it to the semi-finals.

Just got back from Mar del Plata.  The USA team did wonderfully.  Every
single fencer came back with at least a gold or a silver medal.

Here are the team members with the medals they won:

Women's Foil -- Team Silver
 Ann Marsh -- Individual Gold
 Felicia Zimmermann -- Individual Bronze
 Monique DeBruin
 Olga Chernyak

Women's Epee -- Team Gold
 Margo Miller
 Leslie Marx -- Individual Gold
 Donna Stone
 Rachel Haugh

Men's Foil -- Team Silver
 Nick Bravin -- Individual Bronze
 Zaddick Longenbach
 Sean McClain
 Alan Weber

Men's Epee -- Team Silver
 Tamir Bloom -- Individual Bronze
 Michael Marx
 James Carpenter
 James O'Neill

Men's Sabre -- Team Gold
 Peter Westbrook -- Individual Gold
 Tomas Strazlkowski
 Michael D'Asaro, Jr
 John Friedberg

It was a great tournament for the USA.  Pete Westbrook, a very young 42,
picked up two golds.  He now has the record for most Pan American Fencing
Medals -- TEN!  And Pete was selected to carry the US Flag at the openning
ceremonies.  And Leslie Marx also picked up two golds!  Congratulations to
all of the members of this team!
