Marsh wins Pan Am Gold

Ann Marsh (Royal Oak, MI) won the gold medal in individual women's foil at
the Pan American Games in Argentina on Monday, March 13. On her way to the
gold medal, she defeated Gabriella Rios of Bolivia 15-2 in the round of
16, then Mirtheska Escanella of Puerto Rico 15-7, Barbara Hernandez of
Cuba 15-6, and finally Idoris Diaz of Cuba 15-12, scoring the winning
touch with 48 seconds remaining in the final period of fencing.

Felicia Zimmermann (Rush, NY) won a bronze medal in the same event, losing
to Diaz 15-14. She had previously beaten Sandra Rosada of Bolivia and
Alejandra Carbone of Argentina.

In Men's Epee, Tamir Bloom (Millburn, NJ) earned a silver medal, losing
15-11 to Carlos Pedroso of Cuba. Michael Marx (Rochester, NY), lost 15-11
to Mexico's Jorge Castro in his first elimination match.

In Men's Foil on Sunday, Nick Bravin advanced to the semi-finals; Zaddich
Longenbach reached the quarter-finals. Complete results were not faxed to
the USFA.

The Individual Men's Sabre event is being fenced today (Tuesday, March
14); the Women's Epee will be fenced on Wednesday, March 15.
