Any word on American participation in the Canadian circuit?  I enjoyed
having all you folks up for a couple of our elite circuit tournaments
last season.  Will it happen again?

What?  24 fencers?  Do you still fence with repechage?  Does this mean
you don't follow the FIE format for competitions?  I'm so jealous! :)

So as a summary of NAC/open events, that's:

4 enents for MF, WF, ME and WE, *5* events for MS and 3 events for WS.

Now is the 5 sabre events just including the sabre world cup in NYC
or are there actually 5 "normal" scheduled events for MS?
A concession to "what the spectators want"?  Sabre, theoretically being
the most exciting to watch?  Or is this still an incomplete schedule?
I seem to recall Bill Oliver mentioning that there was going to be a
push for 5 point events this upcoming season.

Oh, and what about the Canadian Elite events?  Are they going to count
towards U.S. standings this year?  (I seem to recall some discussion
of that - perhaps it was just a viscious {viscous? ;)} rumor.)

All I know is that I'm either going to have to *majorly* cash in some
frequent flier miles or pin one of my credit cards.  Let's see:

12/16 BOS-FTL
12/18 FTL-BOS
12/22 BOS-LAX (gotta go home for Xmas one of these days...)
1/1   LAX-BOS
1/13  BOS-SFO
1/16  SFO-BOS

What is that, like 14,000 FF miles?  Wowzers.

Maybe I can get work scheduled the first week of January in CA just to
make it extra silly to fly back and forth...

See you on the airways...

First of all, and maybe this is gratuitous quibbling, my post didn't have
the events tallied - that was added by Mr. Yen...

The number and timing of events is determined by the International
Committee, primarily on the recommendations of the five Weapon
Coordinators. It is my understanding that Vladimir Nazlymov
specifically requested an additional Cup event for sabre. This does
_not_ include the World Cup Sabre, which is likely to be held in
NY or Boston (bids are currently being considered from both cities;
a decision is hoped for by the beginning of September).

The IC decides which international events will count for points. This
may include certain Canadian elite events and European "B"s, as
well as the World Cups and World Championships.

The IC also decides the point allocation for the events. The document
detailing the selection process for this season is being prepared and
will be distributed to the point holders as soon as it is ready. A precis
will appear in the National Newsletter.

As more information becomes available, I will post it here.
