how do YOU keep your mask clean?

..my Blade 3-weapon mask was recently condemned by the state board of
health
as a hazard to human, plant and animal life...the unremovable bib,as well
as two
terrycloth-elastic headbands are starting to attract small woodland
creatures from
3 states!
...short of dipping the mask in the wash, how do YOU keep your mask fresh
and
clean?
thanks a lot in advance!

Mask clean?

I think that clean masks are a science fiction topic.....at least, to my
experience.   Being a sabre fencer, my main concern is that the fungus
have enough sweat in it to conduct electricity, and breeze by weapons
control.  short of that, cleaning the thing is a chore....

Sometimes, its possible to scrape some of the nastiness off with a soft
toothbrush and cleanser....hard work though....but I need to expose some
of the lame, right?

Anyway, a bunch of people have velcroed in terry cloth liners to their
bibs, so you can remove that part (which is against your face, right?) and
wash it in the laundry.  Try that.

My understanding is that a pretty good way to clean a fencing
mask is to take it to one of those self-serve car-wash things, you know
the ones with the steam cleaning wands.  Use the wash and rinse functions
of that.  Should take care of it.

A really good method was recommended to me by Mark Neimic a couple of years
ago.  Take it to one of those do it yourself carwashes.  The ones with the
hand held high pressure soapy sprayers.  Blast it with that for about five
minutes.  Then blow dry it.  Works incredibly well.

Real sabre fencers don't wear masks.

Try getting two spray bottles:  one with baking soda and water (careful
when you close the lid) and one with isopropanol (rubbing ***).
Spray one or both onto a cloth and rub it around inside the mask each
time you finish fencing.  It works great for my students.

And that's why there's very few of them around.

Try running your mask through the dishwasher--it's easy and works

I think that the only way to keep your mask clean is to
1)  Purchase a brand new mask,
2)  Encase it in a vacuum sealed container, clear, so you can look
     any time you want to,
3)  Carry it with you to tournaments to be the envy all fencers
     around you.

Incineration tends to do the trick also.
