Adidas Worth Price?

Post by Godzu » Fri, 18 Nov 1994 14:00:28

I've been thinking about investing in a pair of fencing shoes, but
the price for a pair of Adidas is outradeous!  Are they really worth it, and
how do they compare with other brands?  (What are the other brands?)
        Please help!

        thanks....

Yes, the price is outrageous; and, no, they are not worth that much
money. The bottom line, however, is that you're not going to find
equivalent footwear for less money. So, in that sense, they become worth
buying. The other brands I've seen (Zin Kin, Blade's Challenger, etc.)
seem to fall apart after a couple of lunges.

I've also noticed that Adidas fencing shoes are EXTREMELY expensive, so I
decided to invest in a pair of Asics wrestling shoes.  Now I know what you're
all saying: "There's absolutely *no* heel support in wrestling shoes." and
you're right, but if you spend the extra $7.00 to invest in a heel cup or two,
then there shouldn't be any problems.  I've found that I really like the Asics
(they were $35.00) and I'd recommend trying them out at least.

I bought a pair of Blade Challengers and had sore feet.  After buying some
Adidas, the pain moved from my feet to my wallet.

I agree that the Adidas pricing is insane.  That is why I am following the
advice of other fencers in my club and trying wrestling shoes.  They are
very comfortable and designed to take Ball and Heel impacts, so they
translate very well as fencing shoes...I have an ankle problem (who
doesn't) so I am adding braces to the attire.  but the overall solution is
the same (and for under fifty bucks)...Jester

I haven't heard anything bad from people owning adidas. In regards to
other brands, one of my previous coaches brought a pair of Blade's
Challenger. It started falling apart within a couple weeks. I use regular
tennis shoes. Sometimes you can find an odd brand that has a good heel
and holds up well. I don't see the reason for spending over $100 on
fencing shoes- I rather buy some new foils.

At Nationals this year, Tripplette had 2 pairs of the old style of Adidas
left and, miracle of miracles, one of them fit me! I bought them for
something like half price.

When my current pair wears out (after I re-sole them 7 or 8 times) I'll
already have a brand new pair in a style I'm very happy with.
