ankle supports

I've noticed discussion about people turning their ankles, but I have yet
to see discussion about the latest trend in ankle supports. Volleyball
players are now wearing ankle supports that surround the entire ankle
and physically prevent it from rolling. Examples are certain members of
the USA Men's Olympic Team, the Canadian Men's Olympic Team, and the
University of Illinois Women's Team. There are several variations on the
support device, from one that laces to one that is metal and plastic,
but people swear they are extremely effective. The U of I head coach
cites several teams who have used the supports and not had a single ankle
sprain in over a year. I personally have seen players on the U of I team
land on each others feet, go down expecting to be injured, and then get up
surprised and happy and healthy. If your are worried about ankle supports
then check these out -- they seem to be for real.

what kind of supports do you mean? is a brand name type of support that can
be found anywhere? or a was it spefically created for the teams? i've been
looking long and hard for ankle supports for my left ankle and the ones
i've run into so far have all been busts.  every single one of the name
brand ones i've tried are too uncomfortable (ie, seam that runs under the
entire foot) or not enough support. what else is out there that won't kill
my pocketbook?

thanks much...
