from the local newspaper July 03....

"Spain eliminated Canada from World League Volleyball yesterday
(Friday 02 July), claiming the final playoff spot in Pool B in the
teams' final match of the $8-million tournament's preliminary round at
Catellon, Spain.  Canada and Spain entered their two-match series tied
for the final playoff berth, behind Brazil, which had already clinched
first spot.
Spain swept the Canadians 26-24, 25-19, 25-18 yesterday after
battling on Thursday to beat Canada 23-25, 25-22, 26-28, 26-24, 16-14.
Spain finished 7-5 and Canada, which lost five of its six road
matches, finished at 5-7, third in the four-team pool.
Spain took Paul Duerden of London, Canada's top hitter, out of the
game.  Duerden had only 17 kills yesterday after a whopping 46 on
Thursday.  Duerden leads the World League in scoring with 244 points
well ahead of Cuban Angel Dennis Diaz, who plays two matches this
weekend and has 169."
