Saturday, July 8th in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ,

Weather: 75 Degrees, Wind E 2-5 MPH

Michael Emory (Wildwood Crest, NJ) officially came out of retirement when he
teamed with Jim Walls (Ocean City, NJ) to win the Miller Lite Classic Men's Pro
Tournament at Jenkinson's Beach in Point Pleasant, NJ. They defeated Ed Bross
(Holland, PA) and Russ Mellott (Langhorne, PA) 15-6 in the final. Mr. Emory had
played in Wildwood the week before after being called on a cell phone at 8:30
AM and roused out of bed for the 9:00 start by Michael Borga who needed a
partner. Obviously, the beach volleyball bug has once again bitten Mr. Emory
aftere a four year layoff due to back problems. This was Mr. Walls's first
Men's Professional division victory at a JSVBA Event.

Anne Kraft (Yardley, PA) and Kim Freedman (Quakertown, PA) won the Women's
Professional Event over the team of Lisa Ekmekjian (Montvale, NJ) and Shelly
Peariso (Voorhees, NJ).

Sunday, July 8th in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ,

Weather: 75 Degrees, Mostly Sunny, Wind 25-40 MPH straight up the beach

The Co-Ed (mixed) Doubles Professional Event was won by Lisa Ekmekjian
(Montvale, NJ) and Rob Blackin (East Brunswick, NJ) in a squeaker. Final Score
16-14. Second place was taken by the team of Jody Schupak (Montvale, NJ) and
Janet Lano (Roebling, NJ).

The Final was another classic beach volleyball match with neither team able to
put the other away. Mr. Schupak and Ms. Lano clawed back from a 13-9 deficit to
lead at 14-13 on the bad side (the wind was strong enough to make players think
twice about which side was the "Good" side.) Then after Mr. Blackin and Ms.
Ekmekjian scored 2 points to make it 15-14 at least 20 minutes of inspiring
play ensued, during which tremendous digs and all out diving saves kept Mr.
Schupak and Ms. Lano from being eliminated. But they could only hold off the
inevitable for so long.

And all this took place without any aid from a rule created to allow referees
to reward "Spectacularity"
