Brigham Young and Penn State face off in second semifinal
Columbus - The Ohio State men's volleyball team will face top-seed UCLA
Thursday, May 3 in the first semifinal match in The Pyramid in the NCAA
Championship hosted by Long Beach State. The 5 p.m. (Pacific time) match
will be a repeat of last year's National Championship when the Bruins
defeated the Buckeyes 3-0 for the national crown in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Ohio
State (21-6 overall) is the fourth seed in the tournament and is making
its 13th NCAA championship appearance against UCLA (23-7) who will
participate in its 23 championship. The second semifinal will have
second-seed Brigham Young (21-4) facing third-seed Penn State (24-7) at
7:30 p.m. (pacific time) The Cougars are making its second championship
appearance while Penn State is making its 16th appearance. The semifinal
winners will return Saturday, May 5 at 4 p.m. (pacific time) for the
national championship match.
ESPN 2 is scheduled to provide coverage of all three matches. The Ohio
State-UCLA semifinal will be shown on tape-delay May 3 at 9:30 p.m.
(pacific). The Penn State-Brigham Young semifinal will be shown on
tape-delay May 4 at 10 p.m. (pacific). The championship match will be
shown live at 4 p.m. (pacific time).
