FONTANA HARRIS/HANLEY CAPTURE JANTZEN PRO WOMEN'S BEACH VOLLEYBALL TITLE

PORTLAND, ORE. - After two events as the runnersups, top-seeded
Barbra Fontana Harris and Linda Hanley regained the winning form
here Sunday (Sept. 1) to win the $50,000 Jantzen Pro women's pro
beach volleyball event at RiverPlace Square.

Fontana Harris and Hanley snapped a 20-match winning streak by
second-seeded Lisa Arce and Holly McPeak by capturing a 15-12 win
to snare the Fontana Harris/Hanley's fourth title of the 1996 Evian
Women's Pro Beach Volleyball Tour season.

In the third-place match, fifth-seeded Elaine Roque and Dennie
Shupryt-Knoop rallied from an 8-3 deficit to defeat third-seeded
Karolyn Kirby and Angela Rock 15-10.  Roque and Shupryt-Knoop
shared $5,700 for third while Kirby and Rock split $4,100.

Olympians Fontana Harris and Hanley advanced to the championship
semi-finals with a 15-10 victory over Kirby and Rock while Arce and
McPeak scored a 15-5 win against Roque and Shupryt-Knoop.

Fontana Harris and Hanley, who finished fourth at the 1996 Atlanta
Olympic Games, had dropped the past two Evian Tour finals to Arce
and McPeak, including a 15-6 loss in New York (Aug. 11) and 13-12
in Huntington Beach, Calif. (Aug. 18).

Arce and McPeak renewed their partnership following the 1996
Atlanta Olympic Games where McPeak finished fifth with Nancy Reno
after being eliminated from the competition by Fontana Harris and
Hanley.  Arce and McPeak had won Evian Tour events last month in
New York (the Evian Invitational) and Huntington Beach (the Evian
National Championships), and an international event in Pusan,
Korea.

The win was Fontana Harris' 12th of her pro beach career, including
her ninth on the Evian Tour.  Hanley now has 14 career beach crowns
with eight being on the Evian Tour.  As a team, Fontana Harris and
Hanley have combined to win five pro titles.  Here's Sunday's
