Minnesota's club program was well represented this weekend at Ames
despite a low seeding for both Minnesota I and Minnesota II. In pool 2,
Minnesota was initially seeded 3rd behind Park and U.
Wis.-Playetville(sp?) out of a 5 team pool. In pool 1, Minnesota II was
seeded 4th behind Graceland I, Maharishi (sp?), and Kansas, in a 5 team
pool. In a surprising split, Minnesota II defeted Graceland's first team
in a game to post a split between the teams going into the playoffs.
Minnesota I, for the first time in the club history, defeted Park 2-0 and
placed first in their pool. Despite the low seedings, both Gopher teams
were ranked 1st and 2nd going into the playoffs and both recieved a bi for
the 1st round.
In the playoff semi's: Park defeted Minnesota II 2-0 ( I think it was
15-7, 15-3) and Graceland outlasted Minnesota I (15-13 and 15-12) despite
a 5 point deficit in both games. In the finals I believe Park def.
Graceland. We left in the latter half of the 2nd game but park was way
ahead and had huge momentum.
Minnesota's next playing action will be at the Michigan tournament this
coming weekend, which is expected to be a great tournament with several
varsity programs from the USA and Canada attending. Minnesota's next home
matches are on Sat. February 18th when the Gophers will host Iowa at 1pm
and Purdue at 7pm at the Bierman Athletic facility on campus.
