EVIAN TOUR RESULTS SUNDAY FROM HB

MCPEAK/RENO FINISH THIRD IN FIVB BEACH EVENT

HERMOSA BEACH, CALIF. - Holly McPeak and Nancy Reno of the Evian
Women's Pro Beach Volleyball Tour captured third-place here Sunday
(June 23) for the United States during the final rounds of the FIVB
Beach Volleyball World Championship-Series event at The Pier.

Seeded second in the competition, McPeak and Reno lost their first
match Sunday 15-9 to top-seeded Sandra Pires and Jackie Silva of
Brazil before defeating fourth-seeded Natalie Cook and Kerri
Pottharst of Australia 15-4 to win the bronze medal.

Pires and Silva captured the international event with a 12-9 and
12-8 win over third-seeded Monica Rodrigues and Adriana Samuel of
Brazil.  It was the fourth-straight international win for Pires and
Silva.

Rodrigues and Samuel, who defeated McPeak and Reno 15-12 Saturday,
advanced to their third-straight championship final with a 15-13
win over Cook and Pottharst.

McPeak and Reno, the top-ranked team on the Evian Tour, paced the
United States entries in the third international match of the
season.  The eight Evian Tour teams posted a 28-16 main draw
record, including a 20-8 mark against international teams.

Liz Masakayan and Angela Rock (No. 7-seeded) finished tied for
fifth in the competition with fellow Evian Tour rivals Gail Castro
and Deb Richardson (23rd) as both teams finished with a 5-2 match
mark.

The Evian Tour tandems of Barbra Fontana Harris/Linda Hanley (No.
8) and Karrie Poppinga/Christine Schaefer (20th) finished tied for
seventh while the United States pairs of Krista Blomquist/Wendy
Fletcher (28th) and Lisa Arce/Karolyn Kirby (10th) tied for ninth.
Janice Harrer and Gayle Stammer (29th) tied for 13th.  Here are

Olympic Crossing, consolation (winners place third, split $16,000;
losers place fourth, split $12,000) - McPeak/Reno def.
Cook/Pottharst, 15-4.

Olympic Crossing, consolation (winners place first, split $29,200;
losers place second, split $22,400) - Pires/Silva def.
Rodrigues/Samuel, 12-9 and 12-8.
