Completely silly.

Spain wasn't even qualified for last European Championships.

The wild card should have gone to Yugoslavia first, then I would
have thought that the second wild card would be a hard decision
between Canada and Czesch Republic (4th at last European
Championships).

An what do you think of the Olympic champion, The Netherlands. At this
moment there not playing that well, but they have to get the chances to
qualify again. I think Japan wants no top teams playing against them, so
they can qualify themselfs. That's why Spain is invited.

Personnally I would have picked Yugoslavia and Uganda (I couldn't resist
that one, sorry), no I really think that the Yugos and the Check Republic
should have gone, but I guess they didn't want to have two Euro teams. The
fact that the Yugo didn't paly in the World League could have been a factor
against them, I don't know. As far as The Netherland is concerned, they are
not what they use to be as a team and their place was not at The World Cup.

Maybe...

Concerning Netherlands, they would have been my fourth choice after
Yugoslavia and Czech Republik/Canada (both very very close). Don't
forget that Netherlands has been beaten by France, Czech Rep. at
last EC and didn't qualify for the WL final tournament...

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that your national team will have some
hard years before reconstructing something. I really hope they will
have success in it.

I can understand why CZ was not give this wild card : the only
positive result of this team is the last EC. They weren't in World
League and not in World Championships. Thus, their FIVB ranking is
not really very high.

Yugoslavian players and yugoslavian federation are not responsible
for events in Kosovo. They shouldn't be penalised twice.

The reason Canada got the wildcard to the world cup is obvious: the country
mindlessly supports all the absurd FIVB rule changes that are destroying
volleyball.  The wild card is their reward.

Because the Netherlands has a small selection, they had set their focus on
the EC. That's why other player had gotten the chance to play during the WL
qualification.
Wild cards are brought into life because of these situations. When a
normally strong team has a bad period, they can get a wild card so they can
still try to qualify for big tournaments like the Olympics.

Hi Oliver,

the rules have not been fully implemented here in Quebec also. The 25 points
system is fully oerational but the libero is not use until the junior level.

Bye

And BTW what's your pick for the national CIAU championship ? Mine is Laval
;)

Laval got Yan Courtemanche and Mathieu Lagrandeur (starting middle) from the
Junior National Team also. It will be interesting to see the CIAU
championship, which is in Quebec BTW. A final between Calgary and Laval
would be awesome.
