The U.S. men's national team finished the America's Cup with a fourth-place
showing, after dropping a pair of matches over the weekend. Saturday, the
team dropped a tough five-game match to Brazil (20-25, 25-23, 25-14, 23-25,
15-11). Sunday's bronze medal match was another heart breaker as the U.S.
dropped another five-game decision, this time to Cuba (25-21, 21-25, 24-26,
Tom Sorensen led the way for the U.S. against Brazil, tallying 18 kills.
Kevin Barnett and Mike Lambert added 11 kills each in the loss. Lloy Ball
was the block leader for Team USA with five.
Barnett and Sorensen continued to lead the U.S. attack in the match with
Cuba. Each player finished the match with 15 kills.
The U.S. will remain in Argentina for a three-match tour with Argentina
beginning Tuesday. The team's record stands at 36-13 in 1998.
