Remember when  . . . .

    1) You could see lots of *** people in the transition area.

    2) Riding with aerobars meant you were a triathlete.

    3) We ate rice cakes instead of PowerBars.

    4) Companies didn't make wetsuits built for swimming.

    5) Scott Molina bragged about his "terrible diet"  ("I eat whatever
I want to") and was still un-beatable.

No, just three different bikes and the German railway system.
How should I afford a BMW when I have to be training most of
the time? :)

                       Sean?           Kirsten Hanssen

I see Kirsten a couple times a year.  She's living in Steamboat and doing a
smattering of winter races (including a 15 mile snowshoe race last Feb.  up
the highest mountain in Colorado where she kicked my [and most of the
men's] butt).

Jane Snyder, something like 4 times national womens masters champion, hurt her
knee in a biking accident a few years ago and is unable to run anymore.  She
is still very active in the Houston triathlon scene, kicking my ***regularly
on the bike as part of a relay team.   She also coaches all three sports.  Her
and her husband Bob, a very good masters triathlete himself, are part owners
of a great triathlon bike shop called BikeSport (1-800-472-6830) where everyone
who is anyone in the Houston area buys all their bike stuff.  They are a great
asset to the triathlon community and also sponsor a lot of races and our club.

There's just one name that I have to toss in from the past, too: Tom Charles,
5th at the Ironman in '85 ... yes, the one won by Tinley (Scott Tinley, to
be precise) in the year when many stayed away over money issues.

Tom Charles will never make anyone's trivia list, but he was just a good
soul out of Gillette, Wyoming. Use to drive five or six hours from the oil
fields just to race a triathlon in Denver. (He usually won). Either him or
Mike Garcia. Let's see. Most Denver-area races those days were put on by
Steve Hegge. Haven't heard from HIM in a while! Wonder what he's doing ???
