Long distance training for wildflower

Post by TJ » Wed, 04 Dec 2002 08:30:42

Hello, this year I completed, reaching my own goals, the Olympic distance at
Wildflower.
For 2003 I have decided that I will complete the long distance. I am a
little bit out of shape
as I dropped several of my training times a week and have only just
maintained a little bit
of running and bike. Are there any good training resources or a specific
training program/
schedule that I could find on-line or in a book or may be in a SW that could
help get me to
Wildflower this year in a good shape and able to finish the long course
within let say 6 hours
or so?

Thanks
Thierry

I am also going to do Wildflower long course next May, and I will most
likely modify my Olympic Distance program to get ready (longer long
runs, longer bricks, longer long rides.  I would suggest you get into
base building mode as soon as possible.  You need to build distance
slowly to prevent injury, and with little training currently, you have
a long way to go.

That being said, visit www.trinewbies.com for some helpful info as
well as a list of training programs which you may find helpful.  They
have an 18 week 1/2 ironman program that looks decent, but I think it
might be a little light on run/bike miles.  Perhaps someone with 1/2
and full iron experience can comment further.

Keep Training,

Spyder
