Doing the Double: The two race weekend

Doing the Double: The two race weekend

Somebody remind me not to do this anymore.  Maybe 10 years ago I could handle
it but at (almost) 42....
We had a beautiful weekend here in the midwest and my enthusisam had me doing a
duathlon in Beloit WI on Saturday and another in Kewanee IL on Sunday.  Both
races short, but full-speed, and while I raced well Saturday and thought I was
feeling OK for Sunday....whew, I'm paying the price now. I cramped in both
calves late in Sunday's bike leg and that took care of any hope of placing.
More importantly, I think my recovery is going to be a little awhile.
I'd be interested in hearing how folks feel when they try this.  I know better
(it's like back to back speed workouts), but the great weather coupled with the
fun of it all got the better of me!:)

Hobbling around, but looking for a race for THIS Saturday....

For the last couple of years I've done triathlons on consecutive days
with no ill effects (and I'm 41!).  The Wildflower Mountain Bike Sprint tri on
Saturday, and then the Olympic distance course on Sunday.  However, I would
think that attempting consecutive duathlons would be harder on the body.
Assuming the format is the usual run-bike-run, you would have four hard runs to
recover from, instead of just two.  We all know that running is much more
destructive on the body than bicycling or swimming.

And by the way, I'm jealous that you have the opportunity to do
consecutive duathlons on ANY weekend!  Here in Northern California duathlon is
growing extinct--only a handful of relatively small ones still appear on the
race calendar.  Since I'm a horrible swimmer, I'd much rather run-bike-run than
swim-bike-run, given the choice, but there's not much chance to do that around
here.

Haha - I *know* the feeling. My mistake was doing the Goatfell Hill (3000')
Race for a <laugh>. Just a wee training run, take it easy. Oh yeh.
It's now Wednesday and I can only just walk downstairs facing forward :-0
A mediocre triathlete I may be - a fell runner I ain't.

Doing the Double: The two race weekend

Has anyone ever done a TRIPLE before? I was presented with this golden
opportunity this year, and I took up the challenge. I start on Saturday June 13
with the Thundergust Triathlon (sprint distance), follow it up on June 14 with
the Great Chesapeake Swim, and finish it up with a 5k run the night of June 15.

I'll let you know how I do. :-)
