US vs. European tri distances

US vs. European tri distances

I've been logging into some European Tri sites and have found that they
classify distances differently.  I just thought I would post this
because I found it interesting.  Some areas (Pacific and South America
were left out not by design but because I didn't know.  Feel free to add
if you want.

In the US/Canada, we have Sprints, Oly's, 1/2IM and IM as more or less
standard races.

In Europe (at least mainland) people talk about 1/4, 1/2, and full IMs.

Personally, I like the European designations better since it is based on
one standard length (IM).  On the other hand, I really don't care too
much, I just want to race them, not debate them.
