Ironman Europe Results

This weekend saw again the biggest (as far as number of participants is
concerned) Ironman event on earth, the fourth Ironman of the World Series
on supposedly the fastest course (not least due to the bike leg being 3k short
and the swim being in a c***with no navigation problems whatsoever)
in Roth near Nuernberg. In order to do better than the net which still
couldn't come up with any results of Ironman Japan, here are the top
five of each sex (out of 1700 starters). They gave a very exiting race,
with the top men being in chase of  a sub-eight-hours finishing time,
which eluded them because of the bad weather!? It was cold (16-18 centigrades)
and rained a lot.
Here's the results:
Women:
        1.      Katinka Wiltenburg(HOL)         9:18,49
        2.      Ada van Zwieten(HOL)            9:21,40
        3.      Susanne Goetze(GER)             9:31,00
        4.      Krista Whelan(USA)              9:43,33
        5.      ? Mc Allister(CAN)              9:46,41
        6.      Gina Simon(USA)                 9:53,50

Men:
        1.      Christian Bustos(CHILE)         8:03,19 (second fastest ever)
        2.      Juegen Zaeck(GER)               8:07,55 (bike:4:20,21!)
        3.      Peter Kropko(HUN)               8:14,14
        4.      Wolfgang Dittrich(GER)          8:16,29
        5.      Jos Everts(HOL)                 8:19,02
        6.      Bruce Thomas(AUS)               8:20,29

Further Comments: If you want to do an Ironman with great audience
participation go to Roth - I don't think you'll find such TourdeFrance-like
cheering up the hills anywhere else. But, if you want to survive the swim
without being beaten to death and want to have a drafting-free
bike leg, DO NOT go to Roth, because it's just packed (or make sure
you'll be allowed to the top wave, they were able to cycle clean).
