Olympic Trials

My wife was flipping around the dial last night and on a channel I don't
think I have ever watched before, PAX TV, they were showing the women's
trials. I had heard nothing about it. It was mixed in with Kayaking. Sheila
T , looked very strong. Joanna Z. appeared to be doing most of the work,
assisted by Siri L., in the chase pack. Joanna then look very fast on the
run, great leg speed. If the two hadn't got off the front, it would not have
been exciting. Maybe they will rerun it.

You can watch Men's trial also on the same channel on June 17th.

That's pretty funny, because late Saturday night, I was surfing after my
wife had fallen asleep and I stumbled upon the same show/channel.  I, too,
had never even heard of PAX TV, but I was appreciative of the coverage.

Watching Barb was like seeing a car wreck in progress.  I usually don't pay
much attention to the pros, but I'm still feeling bad for her.  Her and
Sheila worked together beautifully on the bike and it's a shame that the
heat took its toll.  Having those two in Sydney would've been awesome and
would have really influenced the race.

So, does this imply that having Joanna Zeiger in Sydney will not influence
the race?

i don't know whether he implied it or not, but if he didn't, i will.

what david was saying, i think, is that the entire race environment,
from start to finish, is altered when you have athletes like sheila and
barb -- who are frontrunners and are willing to work together -- in the
race.  taking the trials as an example, barb did not finish the race.
but she altered the event for everyone in the field with her presence.

as two examples, karen smyers might well have made the olympic team, at
least as an alternate, were barb not to have started the trials; and
taormina might not have won without barb's presence.  so having barb in
the race altered it quite substantially.

zeiger may figure the final standings if she has an exceptional race
(which i hope she does), but she'll have little or no impact on the
intera-race tactics.

this is not to diminish zeiger.  it's just that whether or not barb
wins, places, shows, or finishes, her presence influences everyone's
race every time she races.  should God, or Les, someday decide to make
triathlon, run-bike-swim, joanna zeiger would set the tempo for all the
other racers, and barb would not be a factor until near the end of the
race.

Anyone besides me notice the ONLY to words Dan capitalized in his post were
God and Les? Are these two individuals worthy of the ban on the shift key Dan?

i thought it might be taken as a sign of irreverence if i didn't
capitalize the almightly's name (and i thought i'd capitalize God's
while i was at it).

This is the funniest thing I've read in a long time.
