Mrs. T's: Top Age Group Results

Post by Kay Jon » Thu, 31 Aug 1995 04:00:00

Here's some of the results of the National Champ Race I got
from the paper and posted results:

Top Male Age Groupers:

1.  Keith Casserly, NY  (20-24)  1:53:57
2.  Tony Schiller, MN   (35-39)  1:54:52
3.  Chad Gordon, CA     (25-29)  1:54:59
4.  Mark Jones, TX      (30-34)  1:55:37  :-)
5.  Luis De La Torre,AZ (25-29)  1:55:57
6.  Peter Kain, CA      (30-34)  1:56:06
7.  James Bonney, TX    (20-24)  1:56:12
8.  Robert Fink, OH     (35-39)  1:56:15
9.  Victor Perini, TN   (25-29)  1:56:22
10. Dan Seymour, WI     (35-39)  1:56:52

Top Female Age Groupers:

1.  Linda Neary, FL     (30-34)  2:05:00
2.  Betty Mills, GA     (30-34)  2:05:08
3.  Jill Newman, CA     (25-29)  2:05:19
4.  Siri Lindley, CO    (25-29)  2:05:25
5.  Cameron King, NC    (20-24)  2:06:16
6.  Cassie McWilliam,WI (25-29)  2:06:06
7.  Donna Kay Ness, CT  (30-34)  2:07:46
8.  Gina Derks, TX      (20-24)  2:07:52
9.  Tracy Johnson, MA   (30-34)  2:07:58

* Peter Jones of Chicago with the posted time of 1:52 was
listed as top amateur in the results but was Not in the
National Championship race.  His assign number was way
too high to be in the NC race and I watched the finish of the Male 25-29
(1st wave) and no one finished in 1:52 in that
wave.  Also, as listed in the paper and results, Heide Winters
was NOT the overall female winner with a time of 1:50!.  I
think they got some of the sprint finishers mixed up in
in NC race since some were still on the course when the top
age groupers came in.

Thanks for the results but since when are the "age-groupers" anyone below the
age of 40?  How about the 40s, 50s, and 60s results?  Fact is, we're the ones
with the real time and money that the sponsors love.

Mrs. T's: Top Age Group Results

Sorry that I didn't give all the results but I was too tired
of typing.  I still have the Chicago News and if someone wants
to know the results of any of the other age groups just send
me a note.  The paper goes 5-deep in each age group.

I attended the award ceremony when the results were called out. You'd
think at a race of this calibur they would be able to catch that it not
possible for an age group woman to go 1:50. This should have been checked
before it got to the announcers stand. The race was too big. Joe Shmoe
could have jumped in the 1st wave dogged the swim(multi-colored caps
anyway) turned around at the sprint turn on the bike and jogged the 10K
run and go 1:50 winning the national championship and nobody would have
known.

Heidi Winters, who was announced as having done a 1:50, did about a 2:30.
She told me before the race that she was originally entered in the open
age group women 30-34, but switched into the national championship division.
They didn't give her a new number, but told her to explain the situation
to the finish line folks when she turned in her number strip.  She and I
both agreed that they would probably***up.  Sure 'nuff.  They must have
calculated her time as starting in wave 20-something instead of wave 13
where she did start.  Hence the improved time.

Wish I'd thought of that......I'd be packing for Cancun.

The only results that were in the Chicago paper were the
Pros 1-10 and the National Champ. race spots 1-5.  I didn't
find the results for the Citizen's race, sprint race, or Kid's
race in the paper.
