1st Tri in 20 months... who's doing Tri the Parks this weekend?

Ooooh, have I missed triathlon. As some of you know, I suffered some severe
motivation slumping after IMCal. I did one sprint tri after that in fall of
2000, one sprint Du in spring of 2001 and nothing until March of this year
(sprint Du).

My motivation for training returned late last year. I got back into just
running and actually enjoyed it. I had burned out on running in the 80's,
got into triathlon, but never really did well on my run. After moving to a
new home, I just felt like running. It was great. My pace has dropped from a
11 minute mile (after not having trained) to just barely above an 8 minute
mile, over a 4 mile hilly course. I'm stoked!

Plus, my swim does not seem to have suffered. Maybe it's the running that
has helped. I'm doing a half mile in about 16 minutes. That's not fast
compared to many, but considering my PR for that distance is 15 minutes, I'm
really happy! My bike... used to be my best event. I've only ridden on the
road twice this year -- once a 20 mile training ride, the other the 18 miles
of the sprint duathlon. At that race I averaged just over 17mph on a very
tough course (Powerman Alabama course, one lap). That's only slightly slower
than I did on the same course when I was in much better shape. I have, of
course, been riding the lifecycle at the gym, working on spinning, climbing,
and conditioning. It's working :-)

So, I'm running 2-3 times per week, swimming once per week and biking 1-2
times per week. Not much, eh? Well, considering my times have been improving
in all three disciplines, I'm really happy. I do this to keep in shape --
and it shows :-)

Well, I'm very e***d, as you might notice.  My first tri in 20 months is
this weekend -- the Tri the Parks sprint at Fort Yargo State Park, Georgia.
It's a very short race... I've actually spent more time in the gym on one
day, then I will on this course. But, it's a fun little race. I've done the
course many times, under different names and race directors. It's one of my
favorite parks in Georgia. I'm not going to win my AG, probably be lucky to
finish in the middle of the pack. But, I'm going to have a blast!!! It will
be so awesome to get back into triathlon!

So, who's doing this race? I think Vincent is doing it. Any others?

Haha. Yep. I can't wait... kind of anxious about everything. I have so many
worries about things that could- but probably won't- go wrong.

If you see a kid with a red bike model no one's ever seen that says
"Professional" on one side and "Competition" on the other, that's me. =)

GL with your race. You'll probably do better than me. =)

David,

I'll be out there. The fat old guy on a new yellow Felt. This is my
second race this year. Did the Clermont Intl race in early April. Did
IMC last year as my 5th Im distance race. Had a good race, finished
well, but it has taken me months to recover. Changed jobs and the
training went in the can. Eating habits got worse and piled the tonnage
on. I'm motivated about racing just can't seem to get back into training
and being on a schedule. Ahhhhhh.  See you in Winder.

I will be there as well.  This is my first race of the season.  After IMFL 2001, I took some time off to prepare for this season.  Training for IMFL this year.  It is going to be awesome.  Hope the weather gets better for a good race.  I will be in the 24 age group with a yellow Trek 2200. Red wheels.  Cannot miss it.  Have a good race and remember to be careful.  These races there are lots of first timers who get anxious and scared.

Later.
