Me: 16 y old. Ran 3km in 12:07

Hi!

I was in a road race this morning. It was a 3km race and there were about
100 people participating. I am a 16 year old male and it was my first time
racing a 3km run. I've done it in practice but never in competition. My
method of warmup was RUN, STRETCH, and RUN and I began this 5-8 min before
the race. I began the race and had a fairly steady pace throughout. Near the
end, I began sprinting and my sprint lasted about 150-200m. My finishing
time was 12:07. I think I came in 20th.

Please let me know and comments, advice, or anything of the sort...
Thanks to all.

By the way, some of you have seen me before here.
Lex

Warming up for 5-8 minutes before a 3 km run is the equivalent of training
for a marathon on 15 miles a week.  Oh, once in awhile you read a story of a
top racer who just gets to the start line at the last second without any
warmup and wins anyhow (amazing what adrenalin can do!) but more than likely
it'll leave you tight at the start, and just finally getting loose when you
cross the finish line.

Uhh - what exactly would you like to know?  How good this is relative to
other 16 year olds?  Whether you should run faster on your training base?

Maybe you should be talking to your local HS coach, if you're interested in
racing...

Yesterday I stretched a certain muscle group for 11.5 seconds.
Guess what ?
I'm still fine !!!!
:-)

AS for warming up and stretching you should run fro about 5 to 10 minutes
before stretching, then stretch for 15 minutes or more. Yoiu should never
bounce you stretches, and never hold a single stretch for more than 11 seconds.
Make sure you stretch al yo
u musscle groups. A 12:04 is good for 3k, send me some training info and I'll
see what I can do to make you faster.
