I love competing at both the nationals and the worlds. But I will support
this idea if it becomes a reality.......Chuck

Britain to boycott Cleveland?

This letter has been sent to all GB age-group and pro athletes.
Dear Athlete
You will be aware of the issues and debates over drafting for the elite
at the ITU World Triathlon Championships. The ITU congress voted to
continue with drafting races at the World Cup and World Championships
although there seems to be a groundswell of opinion amongst the athletes
which is opposed to drafting. So what can the athletes do to make their
views heard?
The feeling of many is that a boycott of the draft legal World (Olympic)
Championships by elite and age groupers is the only action left open to
us. This letter is to get a feel for the strength of GB opinion. If a
large majority of athletes are in favour of boycott then we will write
again to ask you to commit to a boycott. The GB elite and age group team
then would instead support the non-draft ITU Middle Distance
Championships (Muncie USA 7th September).
We realise that at an individual level this will be a major sacrifice for
athletes to make and it is very sad but very necessary that we have to
ask you to consider such an action. Unfortunately if we continue to
ignore the situation there is little doubt that our present sport will be
destroyed and a new draft legal triathlon will replace it.
We ask you to answer the questions below so that a GB view can be
determined. From this it is proposed to speak to other nations to
ascertain their views.
Please consider the questions carefully. If we act now as one body the
fate of triathlon is in our hands otherwise it is completely in the hands
of the ITU.

Dave Bellingham     Director of Teams

Well, are there any other Nations willing to join up with the British
initiative?

Tri-On
The only legal draft should come from hops and barley.
