I don't get to many opportunities to check out RST. I was a bit shocked
at hearing about the drafting at St. Anthony's, particularly since I
in Tampa. Oh well, I need to get out more.
My initial reaction was to rush to boycott. But then I figured I'd be
like the person who complains about politics but never registers to
vote. I haven't been a member of TriFed or whatever they call themselves
days for probably 8 years. I saw back then that they never served me so
why should I pay dues. I even went so far as to not attend any races
were TriFed sponsored. You know what happened? I missed out on a lot of
fun. So the next year, I decided to write the race director and tell him
why I would not attend his race. One in particular was in 1991, St.
Anthony's. I got a response back with all my questions answered. I also
got a call from the head drafting marshall about helping out. You know,
we actually caught a TriFed official (another one in 1993).
What I'm trying to say is unless we address the problem directly with
race directors, we will just look like we're blowing a lot of hot air.
you want to boycott, do it with all your heart but spend the 32 cents
let the race director know why. I'm probably going to do the race
its fun, but I'm also going to express my displeasure with the decision
to allow drafting. I'm willing to bet next year the lesson will be
learned. Do what you need to do, but make your decision count. That's
how I feel. Thanks for listening. Now help me shed these extra pounds :)
