Some serious "road kill"

Some serious "road kill"

Since I recall seeing some previous threads about interesting "acquaintances" while biking, I
thought I'd add a post about my ride Sunday.  Two of us were riding up and down the ridges near
Warsaw, Kentucky (35 miles from Cincinnati), while dodging numerous dogs who seemed to enjoy
running alongside of us.  We did see a pit bull in an open yard which scared us quite a bit at
first.  When we noticed he was limping severely and looked to be about 15 we calmed down.
Anyway, while descending through a large canopy of trees, we came upon a rather large
vulture/buzzard sitting in the middle of the road.  Now keep in mind that these things don't
move very quickly, and in fact have been known to be unable to fly after gorging on "road kill."
Fortunately, however, we were simultaneously being chased by a friendly canine.  The vulture
heard the dog and took flight just before my friend hit the site of the vulture's lunch.  All I
saw from behind was a giant bird suddenly appear over his head!  A rather interesting (and
unsettling) sight.
