ok
this is real interesting group
especially since someone decided to stop sending tri magazines
to this part of the country.

Just to let you know the extent of readership in the triathlon
news group.  Here in Tasmania, we have very active participation in
multiple-sports events and some hot performers, both men and women,
in both open and age groups.

Well, I don't compete, I'm too fragile ;-{, but I do read.  If I keep reading
then maybe I'll be less fragile ... oh yeah, I suppose I had better do some
energetic stuff as well.   OK ... Poem time

Mary had a little lamb
and wanted it with mint sauce.
Now, the lamb did it's triathalons,
and ran Mary off the course

well, not so bad off the top of my head..

Gee, Shimano is giving away free components?!  How do I get some??? :-) :-)

No, really, I get the point.  I'm a rec.bike reader who might take up this
triathalon thing one day (if my knees will abide by the running).  I do find
that swimming helps break the monotony and keep my non-existent upper body
muscles in shape.  I read the group in order to find out more about the
sport in a painless manner.

Subject: Free Shimano Components!!

I am active reader and inactive poster in greater Washington, D.C.  I am
especial interested in the post about nutrition.  I have done some
tri meets, the Marine Corp marathon (well run), and play alot of tennis.  The
nutrition post are quite valuable to my tennis game.  If I go 3 sets in 100
degrees and 90% humidity for over 2 1/2 hours (3 times this summer) I want to
protect myself from collapse and feel confident that oppentent does not have
nutrition secrets I do not.

I would like ...

Free Shimano Components!

Post by patrick midd » Sat, 21 Sep 1991 23:14:53

I read this posting several weeks ago and wanted to respond
but had no pertinent story to relate, well being the novice
that I am, that has changed.

Even though I am considering Triing, the only bike I have
is a mountain bike, which used to have pastic pedals.
Becuase I ride it like it is impossible to destroy, I
totally destroyed the pedals.  I, thinking that I am a
halfway competent home bike repairman(please no politically
correct comments), figured that, since I already had the
correct wrench for replacing pedals on my wrench to tighten handlebars,
I could handle this problem myself!

....well.....no one ever told me that the threads on
pedals were specific to any one side of the bike, and Murphy
being who he is, I, of course, got the pedals backward!
It is now closing in on a week since my new pedal ripped the threads
out of my crank arm, the pedals however are fine.  So,
if you could arrange to send some of those free parts my way
I could really use some new crank arms!!!

I also wanted to post this to warn novices who are thinking
about doing there own repair work, it is great and rewarding
but be sure you know how something is put on...even if it
seems obvious!
