r.s.t. team meeting idea may not work

Post by Rolf Aran » Tue, 11 Apr 1995 04:00:00

While this is a great idea on paper, in my experience it is
difficult to get people together for such things.  People before
a triathlon are usually caught up in race-related nervousness and
last minute preparations, and afterwards they just "wanna go home"
and rest.

I tried this idea going into Ironman Canada, and in hindsight,
I could see why there seemed to be little interest (although
I spent time with two of r.s.t.'s coolest people and their
families as well!)

Personally I like the idea of informality (hey there is an r.s.t.
logo!  who can it be?) versus formal meetings.

Respectfully (and eagerly awaiting to buy clothing!),

Rolf

I agree, Rolf.  While the theory is well-intentioned, the practice may be
less than successful.  Besides, it would be more fun to unexpectedly
happen upon fellow r.s.t.-ers, one at a time, than to be herded together
with all of them at once. Mooo!  The more "organized" and "official" this
becomes, the less fun it will be.

Besides, since this is Internet based, doesn't it make sense to keep the whole thing as "virtual" as
possible?  Say, now THERE's an idea... a Virtual IRONMAN.  No sweating, no long hours in the
saddle or worrying about carbo or fat (depending on the prevailing school of thought) loading.

Cheers!

Why not just an informal party/get together at a convenient location?
Sounds like that would work ok.

Well... if CompuTrainer can come up with an interface to the internet,
maybe we could have an online bike race.
