The German girl was Tonja Swieczenko (sp approx.)  I don't think she was
the relpacement for Witt.  Tonja, you will recall, was the one who smashed
into Baiul during a practice session in Lillehammer.  There was another
German woman who replaced Witt (and did rather well!).  Tonja is a real
comer - watch for her in future competitions.  I agree about Bonaly,
though I suspect her mother was behind a good deal of her behavior.  The
mother has a **horrible** reputation (recall Kurt Brownings remarks --
somthing to the extent of "I wonder if her mother put her up to this.")  I
really pity Bonaly having to put up with such a woman.  I also thought
Kwan gave a remarkable performance given all the pressure.  She'll get
only better.

No, Tonja Szewczenko is the German national champion.  Witt was second
place.

I don't know where the spelling comes from, but her name is <obviously> Ukrainian
n and Tanya is the Ukrainian way to spell and pronounce it. Thanx for the nfo though...

What difference does it make if the name is Ukrainian and "Tanya" is the
Ukrainian way to spell it?  This skater's name is spelled T-A-N-J-A.  This
is the correct spelling no matter what the origin of the name is.
