I have read that Seattle and Vancouver are putting together  bid
for the games; I don't see how any other US or Canadian bid could beat out
the combination of those two cities (if they do indeed bid).  Although, I
do agree Boston would be a fine host.

Exactly.  If I were competing in an Athens Olympics (I've been through the
Athens Airport and I wouldn't worry about going there except during the
Olympics), I'd fly from the US to Rome, then either take a bus to Athens
or take a commuter plane to Crete and take a boat to Athens.

Cheers,
Alex

So I guess then you've actually been to Atlanta?

Ali was a great athlete who was not afraid to stand up for his
convictions even if it meant going to jail and losing his
license to box.  I did not agree with what he did at the time
but later came to have quite a lot of respect for him and his
willingness to take such an unpopular stand for a principle.

Yes he beat up on people for a living.  There is a market for
*** in most parts of the world.  IMHO, it takes a real
*** to ridicle someone in his condition.

Non-white losers, huh?  So being an Olympian and\or a world
famous athlete is your definition of loser?

Maybe you would have liked the 1936 games better, Heir Buffet.

You don't need to defend Ali from this joke of a person.  Ali took it
from his types back in the 60's  IF this joke had ever been to Atlanta
then his post would have been the same.  What cracks me up is that this
joke couldn't even hid his own colors.  This comments show that the
problem is not Atlanta or the Olympics, it is his own.

Oh dear, there is more to the world than just North America, or is there?

this is pretty much how i think of ali, and i'm glad that he got to light
the flame. but my thought really was it's the centennial games, they
should have one of the greek athletes come in and light it!  in the same
line of thought as the presentation showing the silhouettes of the ancient
sports (which was really nice and one of the least phony things about the
opening ceremonies).

they could have tied in a lot more greek themes very neatly. the name
"atlanta" comes from greek mythology. atalanta was a princess who was a
fast runner and any man who wanted to marry her had to race her in the
100m dash and win. the man who did win finally, did so by cheating, so
that would be in the spirit of the modern games too (yuck).
