AP doesn't recognize Olympians.

Last month the Associated Press named Annika Sorenstam their Female Athlete
of the Year.

Here's a somewhat funny -- and provocative column -- that criticizes the
award, saying golf shouldn't even be considered "athletes," and avowing AP
is clueless about genuine authentic female athletic stars like Carolina
Kluft, Catalina Ponor and Yana Klochkova, and insisting that Annika
Sorenstam's feats, awesome though they may be, should more rightly be
compared to her sporting peers in games like lawn-bowling, croquet, darts,
curling, billiards, etc.  more.

Give it a read:

It's well-known that there is no definition of "sport"--nor
"athlete"--which is mutually agreeable to everyone who wants to be in
the debate about it. Hell, there were people a year or so ago arguing
that Lance Armstrong isn't an athlete, and there are people who try to
argue that chess is a sport.
