Form MTU and Team USA left winger Jim Storm made his NHL debut with
the Hartford Whalers in Wednesday night's 4-3 Hartford victory over
Ottawa. Storm had played for Team USA against the Whalers in Tuesday
night's exhibition contest, but stayed behind to sign a three year
contract as Team USA headed off to Europe for a pre-Olympic tournament.
Storm signed after receiving assurances from Team USA coach Tim Taylor
that he would be welcomed back to the national team for the Olympics
should the Whalers let him return. Storm's contract is valued at
220k, 235k, and 235k over three years, with a 225k signing bonus.
Storm played a couple of shifts in the first and second periods. I
thought he looked quite good in making an effort to go to the net
and use the body. Storm is expected to replace recently traded
left winger Patrick Poulin in the Whalers' plans.
