...that is what the headline read in today's Detroit Free Press Sports
page. Tonight the 'Wing campers take on the 1993 SC Champion campers
at Joe Louis Arena. The game is an exhibition opener for both teams.
I don't have line-ups for Montreal (does anybody?), but the Detroit
players slated for the game are (according to the newspaper):

Forward: Dallas Drake, Sergei Fedorov, Greg Johnson, Sheldon Kennedy,
Slava Kozlov, Martin Lapointe, Darren McCarty, Keith Primeau,
Bob Probert, Ray Sheppard, Mike Sillinger, and Tim Taylor.
Defense: Steve Chiasson, Mark Howe, Vlad Konstantinov,
Nicklas Lidstrom, Yves Racine, and Aaron Ward.
Goalies: Peter Ing and Chris Osgood.

Injured: Steve Yzerman (sore wrist) and Shawn Burr (stiff neck)

To see Howe in the line-up is a good sign that his back's in good shape.
In the training camp workouts, he was skating like a 20 year old...

Should be a fun game for all...Hopefully, Demers and his team will get
a warm reception in what Jacques calls "my second home."

Hah...Jacques and (_particularly_) his team should be booed out of
the building. People should litter the ice with Bernie Federko
cutouts and chant "We want Adam...We want Adam..."

It'll be interesting to see if Jacques dresses Roberge for the
return to his "second home". After all, he knows what a fan
favourite Probie is at the JLA.

Were Roberge and Probie ever on the ice together last year??

Whoah, I think I missed something here. Could someone fill me in on
how Peter Ing became part of the Detroit system ? Last I heard he
was being wasted in the Edmonton Oilers system, somewhere at a
sub-NHL level. This is the same Peter Ing who was starting for
the Leafs about 2 or 3 years back, right ?

BTW:I was a big fan of Peter's back when he was a Leaf, how's he
been looking lately ?

Courtesy of the Montreal Gazette:

Regulars: Rob Ramage, Kevin Haller, John LeClair,Benoit Brunet, Gary Leeman,
Mathieu Schneider, Eric Desjardins, Ed Ronan, Mario Roberge,
Gilbert Dionne, Stephan Lebeau, and Ron Wilson. Oh yeah, I almost
          forgot Andre Racicot.

Rookies:  Gerry Flemming, Donald Brashear, Brent Bilodeau, Turner Stevenson,
Peter Popovic, David Wilkie, Lindsay Vallis, Jim Campbell,
Craig Ferguson, Brian Savage, Les Kuntar and Craig Darby.

Apparently the Money players are staying home. That includes Roy, Damphousse,
Muller, Bellows, Keane and Carbonneau. Daigneault, Brisebois, Odelein and
DiPietro won't be there either.

DiPietro is suffering from a virus, and Odelein is smarting from stopping a
puck with his face several days ago.

Detroit acquired him from the Edmonton Oilers over the summer for the
infamous FCs (future considerations;)

Yes, Peter Ing arrived in Edmonton in Sept. 1991 as part of a trade
with the Leafs. Ing only played a handful of games for Edmonton in
the 1991-92 season and spent the balance of the season in the AHL.
As I recall, Peter refused to report to the AHL team last season, and
was suspended by the Oilers. He went to the CHL briefly and then
finished the season playing for San Diego of the IHL.

Well, during training camp he looked pretty good, and has a good chance
of taking over Riendeau's spot as back-up goaltender to Chevy.
Ing played two periods in the exhibition game against Montreal, and let
in 1 goal facing only 13 shots. Montreal didn't bring their big guns
(Capt. Kirk, Bellows, and Damphousse) with them.
