Primeau is over-rated and they could survive well without Coffey but
Shanahan is enetering the prime of his career.Shanahan with Fedorov or
Yzerman would guarantee 50 plus goals for Shanahan.Good trade for both
teams...but Detroit get's the best in this possible deal.

If DET can get Shanahan for Coffey and Primeau, they are damn lucky.

But (after dumping Shanahan) why Hartford would want the expensive Coffey,
who's last couple of years left are better spent on a competitive team?
Makes no sense.

Maybe Zhamnov will end up in Hartford instead.

Heard on ESPN that Paul Coffey was excused from the game tonight against
the Devils to go home.  This might mean that the rumored trade between the
Wings and Hartford (Primeau and Coffey for Shanahan) is close to being
done.  I may be wrong but I've never thought of Shanahan as a great and
aggressive playoff performer (which I think is what the Wings need).  Am I
missing something?

I think Colorado ought to try and land Coffey in exchange for
holdout Simon. Detroit needs an enforcer, while Coffey would
do a lot of good in Denver.

although this is a moot point (after the trade was finalized), it is
highly unlikely detroit would make a move of this sort. trades within
conference rivals are rare and far between. besides, they already have
Grimson taking up valuable space.
