I recently ran the 'nhl' program (the last version, as of 9/27) and got the
following results for Montreal and Hartford:

Upcoming games for Bruins vs. Canadiens...
     Monday, 11/16:    Boston at Montreal
     Thursday, 12/3:   Montreal at Boston
     Saturday, 12/12:  Boston at Montreal
     Monday, 1/25:     Boston at Montreal
     Wednesday, 2/17:  Boston at Montreal
     Monday, 3/1:      Montreal at Boston
     Thursday, 3/11:   Montreal at Boston
     Thursday, 3/25:   Montreal at Boston
     Saturday, 4/10:   Boston at Montreal

The NHL regular season runs from 10/6 - 4/15

and:

Upcoming games for Bruins vs. Whalers...
     Thursday, 10/8:   Hartford at Boston
     Friday, 11/27:    Hartford at Boston
     Saturday, 11/28:  Boston at Hartford
     Saturday, 12/26:  Boston at Hartford
     Saturday, 1/2:    Hartford at Boston
     Monday, 3/22:     Hartford at Boston
     Tuesday, 3/30:    Boston at Hartford

The NHL regular season runs from 10/6 - 4/15

Can this be true?  Do we really play an extra game against Montreal, and miss
a game against the Failures?  Or is this a typo?

                                Thanks for your help...

I have some news for you. Teams don't play 8 games within the division any
more. From the monthly FAQ:

)The season will begin on 10/6 and end on 4/15. Playoffs will begin on 4/18
)and end on or before 6/14. 24 NHL regular season games will be played in
)non-NHL cities during 92-93 season. Cities: Milwaukee (2), Sacremento (2),
)Cleveland (2), Indianapolis, Phoenix, Miami, Oaklahoma City, Dallas, Atlanta,
)Cincinnati, Providence, Birmingham, Hamilton (2), Saskatoon (2), Halifax.

)Here is a chart showing the number of games between the teams (84 games each):

The only other thing I forgot to put in there way back when, is that the
extra 2 games within the division is decided by last year's division
standings: 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6. So, Montreal (1st) plays Boston (2nd)
2 extra times. Dumb idea, but that's how it works. Extra games are a result
of neutral site games (i.e. non-conference teams were only supposed to be
played 2 times, not 3, and some neutral site games are between teams in the
same conference (although not many)).

No, nhl.c is fine (well I think so, didn't actually *look* at the schedule).
What you didn't know is that because the schedule was expanded for this year
to 84 games after the schedule was already set for 80 (or mostly set) the
solution was to add 2 extra games against one division foe, and 2 non-division
games against a random foe at neutral sites (the latter two are the neutral
site games). SOOOO, you get to play one team in your division 9 times instead
of 7. isn't that great? Nothing like a well thought out plan, eh? Nothing
like having over 10% of your games against a single team....

I like having divisions, but as a fan, and somebody who goes to a lot of
games, I think playing almost 1/2 your games against 5 teams a bit much.
They should make it at or below 1/3 IMHO for next year.

Lindros, 4 GP, 5 G, 3+ A (did he get any A's vs washington? I hate not getting
box scores...) not a bad start...:-)
