Women's Exhibition Hockey: Canada vs Finland

Hi !

The Finnish media mentioned that the Canadians
have not lost even a single game _ever_  before in women's hockey.

Is this really true ? Does anyone know ?

And is women's hockey a major sport in Canada ? In Finland it
is _not_. Girls skate or ski x-country and downhill.

BTW, did you notice that Finnish women won the World Championship
in Ringette last week. The Finns beat both Eastern and
Western Canadians among others. What about it then ?

At least it proves that the Finnish gene heritage (..is that
the word) is not worse than the Canadian for people who try
to do well in games played on ice.:):)

Yesterday in Ottawa, Finland beat Canada 6-3 in an exhibition game.  Players
of the game were Riikka Nieminen for Finland, and Andria Hunter for Canada.
In goal for Canada was Leslie Reddon.  I'm not 100% sure who the goal scorers
were (I've heard Nieminen with 3 or 4 for Finland, and James, Wickenheiser,
and Page or Leslie for Canada)  That's all the information I have.  Canada's
next exhibition game before the World's is in Ottawa vs USA on Thursday.

The game was played at the Jim Peplinski Arena. The Finnish team was
leaving just as we were arriving for our 11 pm game. No doubt you all
care. BTW, Doug Kells who occasionally posts to this group had a
spectacular game in goal.

Yup, the Canadians scored in the last minute of the game.  Angela James scored
assisted from Judy Diduck and Hayley Wickenheiser.  At least, that's what
Andria told me, and she played on that line:-)

Goal scorers for Finland: Riikka Nieminen 3 (+1 assist!),
Marika Lehtimaki, Petra Vaarakallio, Katja Lavonius

According to my paper the result was 2-6 (1-1, 1-2, 0-3), but maybe the
paper was printed too early and the Canadians scored one more time late
  in the 3rd period??? 8-)

Which goes to show exactly how major a sport it is. Women's hockey is not
a major sport in Canada.
