NHL "Canadian" division

I just read in Sunday's paper (ok, I'm a slow reader (-: ) that Glen Sather
is pushing for an "all-Canadian" division in the NHL. Any scoops, other
news, comments, etc. ?

I sent this the other day but I don't think it got through. I haven't seen
it on the net.  I think it would be a neat idea to use someone's earlier
suggestion of an all 'original 6' division combined with a Canadian division.
The NHL probably would not go for it and it wouldn't be the best for travel
and would split up many existing rivalries but here is a neat idea on
reallignment:

ORIGINAL Div.     CANADIAN Div.     US EAST Div.       US WEST Div.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MONTREAL          EDMONTON          NY ISLANDERS       LOS ANGELES
TORONTO           CALGARY           NEW JERSEY         MINNESOTA
BOSTON            VANCOUVER         HARTFORD           ST. LOUIS
NY RANGERS        QUEBEC            WASHINGTON         PITTSBURGH
DETROIT           WINNIPEG          BUFFALO            PHILADELPHIA
CHICAGO           OTTAWA            TAMPA BAY          SAN JOSE

Yes, this would be fun (although it will never happen).  But I'd make
one small change to this, and swap Philadelphia with Tampa Bay.
Putting the Flyers in US East as shown above would keep four of the
current Patrick Division teams together, maintaining all the grudges
and rivalries between them.  And putting Tampa and San Jose in the
same division would probably help to get at least one of those teams
into playoff contention quickly, albeit as a weak entry at first.

Canucks' president (?) Brian Burke was interviewed by HNiC prior to Monday's
game (12/31) in Winnipeg, stating that the Canucks "were strongly opposed
to any all-Canadian division" since it would make Vancouver's already
poor travel situation even worse.  It would also make the Los Angeles and
San Jose travel situations worse.

I think Sather just doesn't want to have to face Gretzky eight times per
year in the regular season and in one of the first two rounds of the playoffs.
