Looks like its that time of year again: glowing pucks, comet trails.
Sega. All that. What to do about it? As some readers have noted,
complaining here probably won't do it, as we're likely just preaching to
the converted. And yet contacting Fox directly doesn't seem to be
having the desired effect either. Surely they've received hundreds of
thousands of complaint letters/calls (well, maybe tens of thousands)
about the damn puck, and what is this, year three? It seems clear
that Fox really doesnt give a damn either way about what the viewers
My _theory_ is that they get paid the same no matter how many people
watch...this isnt pay per view. So, why should Fox give a flip about
turning the game into a circus? As long as Anheuser Busch, et al. keep
buying advertising time, the bank deposits keep getting made, and they
recover their R&D costs on the puck.
But what if, instead of writing Fox, we grit our teeth, sit through
the all star game, and write the sponsors instead, threatening a
boycott of their products until or unless Fox throws the puck in the
garbage? Advertisers advertise because they see it as a way to increase
sales. Once they perceive a negative return to their advertising $$,
they'll cut those dollars off. When that happens, Fox loses big $$
contracts and it hurts their revenue stream _which just may_ get
their attention. It seems clear as shit that viewer loyalty doesnt
matter for anything to these people.
Write/call the sponsors. Post addresses and phone numbers.
