Vancouver taxpayers will be assisting on the goal of a new hockey
arena for the Vancouver Canucks. It will cost about 40-thousand dollars
for city hall to ``fast track'' the project. City Councillors argued
Northwest Sports should pay the full cost of speeding up the re-zoning red
tape. But the motion passed 6-4 with Mayor Campbell saying the extra costs
will be recouped through development permit fees. The president of
Northwest Sports, Arthur Griffiths, says he's pleased with the decision
adding it means the new facility, to be built near the B.C. Place Stadium,
will be ready for the opening game of the 1995-96 season.
