Canadian goaltenders for the next Canada Cup?

I would pick Troy Gamble, the goaltender for the Canucks (no regional bias here
=-) ).

Right now, he's leading the NHL in both goals-against average (1.97) and
save-percentage (.926) following last night's win (2-1) over the Maple Laffs.

One can probably rattle off most the Canadian team for the next Canada
Cup or most of the key players rather quickly except for the goaltenders.

Who do you think will/should be the goaltenders for the Canadian team in
the Canada Cup now that Grant Fuhr is sort of out of the question?

I'd probably pick Ranford and Moog...but I'm interested
in what other people think.

The Americans need look no further than the New York Rangers
tandem in my opinion.

Those are pretty solid picks, but how about Patrick Roy and Sean
Burke. IMHO, Roy is one of the top three goaltenders in the league
and, though he is having a tough time this year, Burke is still a fine
goaltender who has international experience having played for the
Canadian Olympic team.

Patrick Roy.
Is Darrin Puppa Canadian? If so him definitely.
Kirk McKlean (from Vamcouver)

Well three other possibilities anyways.

His timing is excellent; he renegotiated his contract after last
year's defensive corps helped him to earn it.  This year ... ?

Mike Godfrey just told me that last night's Devils-Jets game was on
TSN ... well, Burke juggled and stumbled on a lot of plays!  As much
as I'm a fan, I can't deny that he's been shaky since last season, and
Chris Terreri seems to be stealing Burke's thunder.  Don't forget the
trade rumours of Burke and Daneyko going to the Flames last year ...
the trade ended up sending Jim Korn up to Calgary, though.

Andy Moog is probably the only netminder I'd pick for Team Canada with
any confidence.  As a backup, I'd even go for a rookie like Troy Gamble
of the Canucks or Rick Tabaracci of the Jets (who was great last night).

I agree with you about Moog...the other goaltending spot seems wide
open...with the other proven guys perhaps having seen their best days...
i.e. Fuhr, Hextall.  I'm not the greatest Roy or Vernon fan in the
world...and Hrudey has not demonstrated the ability to win the big
game (even though it perhaps has not been his fault)...so a lot
depends on this year.  The problem with a lot of the new generation
of goaltenders is that for the better ones this year...i.e. Belfour
and Gamble, even Riendeau...this is really their first year, and I tend
not to trust goaltenders who've had only one good year.  This is why
I think Ranford may have a good shot, because he can potentially put
two solid years together back-to-back, and he has demonstrated that
he can handle the pressure of the big games.  Burke would have
been a possibility, but he seems to have lost his confidence, and
Maclean got off to a rough start in Vancouver.

I guess ultimately it will depend on who the coach is but I think
it will be Moog and somebody.

I don't know about either. Patrick (I'm a big fan, note the .sig) has
not been that great this year. Granted, the Habs' defence is shaky at
best (Jeez, I can't believe I'm saying that, of all teams!), and he
can still pull some really winner moves, but I think that Hayward's
absence is being felt. (I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT! I was screaming up and
down at home when I heard of the trade).
As to Burke, you need to read the papers around here. He's been having
a lot of trouble lately, especially at home, where he's gettin booed
by the crowds sometimes. Terreri (sp?) is being played almost
exclusively at home now.
