Forget the regular season, forget winning the NHL's best record:
The Rangers are shaking in their skates.
I saw this coming from three weeks ago, when the Isles got hot and the
Panthers faded into their true mediocrity: the Isles nailed the #8 spot,
and are slated to play the Rangers.
Now, I am a HUGE Islander fan; I grew up in Plainview, on Long Island in
the 70s and 80s. I was there before the Cups, and went to highschool the
specific four years in which they won their four cups. I would hang out at
Cantiague Park in Hicksville during Islander practices. They would wander
into the parking lot after their session and talk to the few fans that went
there, signing autographs and talking hockey. I have a program at home in
New York with the autographs of Bossy, Trottier, Gillies, Nystrom, Potvin,
Billy Smith, and many others. So, I am biased.
However, I will proclaim it now, loud and proud:
THE ISLANDERS ARE GOING TO DEFEAT THE RANGERS IN THIS PLAYOFF SERIES.
There is no arguing the ability and skills of the Rangers players; they
have a solid team, great leaders, solid goaltending. But, the Isles have
their number down cold, and they going to beat their rivals in a tough series.
The teams will split the opening games at the Garden. The Islanders will take
two at home. They will go back to MSG and the series will end, Isles 4-2,
maybe 4-3 if the Rangers get 2 games in Nassau C. Then, the shit is going
to REALLY fly, what with the media covering both the Knicks and Rangers down
to the last detail, analyzing their every move. They will get is BAD.
--- Can't wait for the series
