Frolunda - Lukko 1-2 (1-1, 0-0, 0-1)

Tommi Pullola scored the winning goal 1.20 before the end of
the game when Finnish Rauman Lukko beat the Swedish home
team Frolunda Indians in the first ever European Hockey League
game for both of the teams yesterday (1.10.1996) in
Gothenburg Sweden. Boris Rousson made 32 saves to keep Lukko
in the play under the pressure from Frolunda.

Home team Frolunda took the early lead in the game by Linus
Fagemo's goal. He followed a shot of his line mate and put the
puck in the net from a rebound. Scott Humeniuk tied the game
with his power play goal at 18.08 of the first period.

The game was very even and both teams had their moments. In
spite of their greater possession of the puck and several
shots on goal posts Frolunda was not able to put the puck
behind Lukko's Canadian goalkeeper Boris Rousson again and
got perhaps a bit frustrated under the pressure from home
crowd.

Finnish TV commentator Raimo Summanen made a prediction before
the final period that Lukko will win with a goal in the
last minute. He got wrong only by twenty seconds, when center
Tommi Pullola followed his own pass from a face off and
walked in to lift the puck over goalie Mikael Sandberg.
Pullola had put the puck once in the net already earlier in
the period
but the goal was disallowed because the goal had moved from
its morings only fractions before.
