Pay-per-View--Wirtz and the Hawks "organIzation" created "Hawk Vision"
which 'allows' cable subscribers to pay by the round or by the game to
get he Hawks' home playoff games.  It's $12.95 per game by the round, or
$15.95 per game (not by the round).  They must've made a lot in
1991-1992, but since they were eliminated in 3 or 4 in the 1992-1993
season, they lost a chunk of change.  This year though, IF you
subscribe, the first XXX (some amount) of people who sign up get the
final program from the 4/14 Toronto game...I did HawkVision in '92, but
not in '93.  I'll probably do it this year, IF I can get through to my
cable company.  (Really difficult)

Yeah, well I say *** HawkVision and Dollar Bill.  He can cram his
HawkVision up his ass for all I care.  Thank god for ABC so I could
actually see what the inside on the stadium looks like for a Hawk's home
game.  Maybe I'm spoiled but I consider it a right to be able to see my
favorite team's home games.  I love the Hawks but I try to not go to the
stadium so Wirtz won't get my money.  The man is living in the stone age by
thinking that if he shows home games the fans won't show up.  No wonder the
Hawks are barely noticed here in Chicago compared to the Bears, Bulls, Sox,
and Cubs.  Has it ever occured to Dollar Bill that perhaps if fans could
see how exciting Hawks home games are, how great the atmosphere is, that
they might be more inclined to see games?  They used to show Hawks games in
the early 70's on channel 9.  There wasn't a problem with attendance at the
stadium then.  It was only in the mid to late 70's, when the Hawks sucked,
that Wirtz pulled the plug on televising home games.  Did it ever occur to
him that maybe it had more to do with the players on the ice then the TV
coverage that attendance was down?

Sorry to vent my spleen but I know I'm not alone on this.  Wirtz has to
among the most hated sports owners in all of professional sports.  McCaskey
and Reinsdorf a close second and third!  What is it about Chicago that
gives us great teams but terrible owners?!

I thought the game was going to be on Sportschannel anyway?

"The" final regular season home game from the Stadium _is_ going to be
on Sportschannel, _but_ the playoff games will NOT be on SC.  That's
where Hawkvision comes in.  Though a whole lot of Hawk fans agree that
if they want Hawkvision, they'll go to the actual building and sit in an
actual seat in the actual Stadium.  No virtual reality hockey for most
Hawk fans.

Dollar Bill is the biggest a-hole I know.  He has pissed almost every Hawk
fan in the Chicagoland area off.  I went to college in the fall and got to
see two Hawk home games.  One on ESPN or ESPN2 and the other on ABC the
other day.  I have waited for probably a year to see that game on ABC
because I could never see them before.  I might have seen them when I was
about 6 years old, but the effect wasn't there at the time.  I dropped
everything for those two games.  I loved them.  I was still in awe of the
greatness of the Stadium.  I definitely will remember the roar.  I guess
that could be due to Wirtz.  I still hate him, but his lame brain idea
could have really brought about the mistique of the Stadium.  I don't
know.  It really hurts me to know that the old building is going because
of Dollar Bill's cash flow.  It'll bring in better players because of the
extra cash, that is if he doesn't pocket it.  Supposedly he is trying to
produce the same acoustics as the old stadium in the United Center.
Hopefully it happens, but it will never be the same and ticket prices, so
I hear, are going to go up again.  I can't afford to go anymore.  I was
going to go see them this year, but just couldn't spend $40 for mazzanine
(1st and 2nd balcony were sold out--that's what the guy from ticketmaster
said).  REMEMBER THE ROAR.  I know I will.

That should read the HOME playoff games will not be on SC. Road games will
be, as always.

Maybe it's a good thing the Hawks have such a low seed in the
playoffs...more games (potentially) on regular cable. :)

I guess it depends on who your team is, but I think the "Most  Hated
Owner/Harold Ballard" Award has to go to Peter Pocklington. The shit that guy
has pulled - starting with the Gretzky trade - is just absolutely
unbelievable. I'm not saying that Wirtz isn't hated, but I haven't seen
anybody burn ephogies (sp?)of him, yet. Pocklington does have that honour. At
least Wirtz gives your GM more than $1.50 to try an ice an NHL team.
